In the Land of Knights & Coconuts

17/8 Let us store in Liddow

Laase, the smallest yet finest AWO meeting, is back on the program for its ten‑year anniversary, after I had to miss it last year for reasons. My conscript will correct me at this point, because it’s not an AWO meeting but a gathering of types. And he’s absolutely right! You do meet a few types there…

The route takes me this year west of Neubrandenburg toward the north. After Penzlin the side road turns into Plattenweg, not fast to drive, but decidedly rambling. Demmin, on the other hand, seems trapped in a 1990s time loop. Or perhaps it’s designated as a museum village and they’re trying to preserve the charm of the transition years. In Loitz there’s coffee and cake, and during a phone call with Volker I learn that I’m standing right in front of his birthplace. Or, more accurately, I’m sitting there.

In Laase almost nobody greets me, not even the obligatory mosquitoes. The pack only shows up later, coming back from the exit at Prora. And in the evening, along with the self‑snapped photos, there are Thorsten’s meat pralines again. Always a poem! After my abstinence last year, it’s a joy once more to be able to converse with all the crazy people here, while the level of content spans a considerably wider range. May the meeting in Laase endure for a long time to come.

And the gearbox is still sealed, so far…
